New Hires 🎉

Big congratulations to all the Scrimba students who’ve landed jobs this week! 🥳 🎉

Ahmad's I Got Hired Story -as a part-time React Frontend Web Developer for a local startup here in Dresden, with the option to switch full-time in semester breaks. I did the last technical interview yesterday, they sent me the offer today, and will start working next Monday. The take-home test was fairly straightforward, did it on time, but they came back with a request to optimize with useCallback and useMemo, and to refactor my code into TSX. Optimizing was easy, but refactoring to TS was the difficult part tbh, cause I haven't really coded anything in TS before. Anyway, I submitted the revised TSX version before Christmas, and probably didn't muck it up so bad, because last week they reviewed it and their feedback was very good. Huge thanks to all the teachers at Scrimba, and to this community. I began the Career Path last April, completed it in September, and learnt a lot in the process. I've been job hunting for part-time developer roles since then, not entirely self-taught though, I had previous programming experience in Java, from my Bachelor's degree, and Fortran, from my Master's, both helped a lot in data structures and algorithms, different syntax, but concepts are more or less the same in frontend. And it's probably a combination of all three that got me the job. Stay optimistic, and keep at it, wish you all the best on your learning and job search journeys. — This is great opportunity! Very quick turnaround too!

Ahmad has been hired as a part-time React developer! He says that his journey has not been entirely self-taught, as he has previous Java programming experience from his Bachelor’s degree, and Fortran experience from his Master’s degree, both of which helped him tremendously with data structures and algorithms.

He says the combination of Scrimba’s courses with the other two languages helped him land the job. Nonetheless, congratulations, and we wish you the best of luck!

Adding the ability to customize your name for the greeting

She has always wanted to learn to code, and she tried to study computer science but gave up after it turned out that, at her university, she was supposed to write Java on paper. During the pandemic, she picked up coding again. Two years later, she changed careers!

In this episode, Marleigh will teach you how to balance learning to code with having a full-time job. She also talks about online communities and how to benefit from them, the importance of developing independent projects for your portfolio, and why you shouldn’t be afraid to take breaks when you need them. She also shares how she eventually changed career paths within the company she was already working at and how she knew she was ready to apply for jobs.
